New UNICEF Report Unveils the Deadly Impact of Air Pollution on Young Children

By StaticAir

Air pollution remains a formidable health threat to children worldwide, with potential long-term consequences starting even before birth. According to the latest State of Global Air 2024 report, air pollution was the second leading risk factor for death among children under five years old in 2021, following malnutrition. This alarming statistic reveals that over 700,000 young lives were lost due to air pollution that year, amounting to nearly 2,000 deaths each day and including more than 570,000 neonatal deaths.

The report also highlights the connection between air pollution and preterm births, attributing 34 percent of these cases globally to poor air quality. Preterm births, a leading cause of early childhood mortality, can lead to lifelong health challenges, including disabilities and developmental delays.

Adding to the urgency, the report points out the bidirectional relationship between air pollution and climate change. Pollutants like PM2.5, which come from various sources such as transportation, industrial activities, and wildfires, also contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change.

StaticAir’s PAMARES Solution: A Vital Response to the Air Quality Crisis

In response to these growing concerns, StaticAir’s PAMARES Outdoor Air Purifier is making a significant impact in safeguarding children's health. For instance, In light of these findings, a childcare facility  in Watthana, Bangkok,  called Little Treehouse Nursery,  has set a unique example.  The nursery, which  is a childcare centre  including for those under 5 years, decided to install Pamares air purification system in it's premises  as a step of taking proactive steps to mitigate  the adverse effects of air pollution. Faced with severe local air pollution, the nursery sought an effective solution to protect the health of its young students and staff.

Little Treehouse Nursery installed StaticAir’s PAMARES Outdoor Air Purifier, a state-of-the-art system designed to significantly reduce particulate matter, including harmful PM2.5 particles. This intervention has yielded impressive results:

Efficiency: The PAMARES system has been instrumental in reducing harmful particulate matter, including PM2.5, within and around the nursery. This significant improvement in air quality has created a much safer environment for children and staff.

Educational Impact: Beyond its health benefits, the installation of PAMARES has served as a powerful educational tool. The nursery has used it to engage parents in discussions about environmental health and sustainability, raising awareness about the importance of clean air.

Health Benefits: The cleaner air provided by the PAMARES system has led to a noticeable reduction in respiratory issues among children and staff, reinforcing parental confidence in the nursery’s commitment to high-quality care.
